How does therapy it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, therapy will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs. We will work together to decide what is most important to focus on. You just need to be yourself. It can feel awkward at first to share your feelings and fears with someone you don’t know and my job is to help you to feel as safe as possible. My clients have told me I am easy to talk with and non-judgmental.
How long does therapy take?
There are many factors that affect the length of counseling. Usually, clients commit to counseling for 6 months and we review progress monthly together.
How often do we meet?
I have found that meeting weekly, at least initially, is the most effective for making progress towards clients’ goals.
What kind of results can I expect from counseling?
My clients report feeling less anxious, more in control of their thoughts and feelings, and less emotionally reactive in their relationships. They feel better about themselves and experience more freedom from negative patterns of thinking about themselves and the world. They also learn tools that they can continue to use after therapy has ended.
What if I need to cancel?
I have a 24-cancellation policy, so if you need to cancel for any reason, it’s important to make sure you give 24-hour notice to avoid paying the full session rate cancellation fee.
Do you take insurance?
At present, I am a preferred provider for California Health and Wellness, and Anthem Blue Cross Medi-Cal. I work with a billing service to bill those insurance companies that I am contracted with.
For insurance companies that I am not contracted with, I provide my clients with a Superbill which you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement using your Out-of-Network benefits. I recommend that you contact your insurance company to clarify your Out-of-Network benefits as they vary from each insurance company.
What is your rate?
My rate is $130 per 60 minute session.
Do you offer telehealth, online, or video sessions?
Yes, I use a secure HIPPA compliant platform to offer video counseling. If you have any questions about how that works, please call or email me.
I want to schedule a session. What do I do next?
I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we are a good fit for your needs.
I’ve never been to therapy before. I’m used to handling things on my own. people who go to therapy weak or really have severe problems?
People who decide to see a therapist do so for a wide range of issues. It takes courage to reach out for help and we all need it sometimes. A trained therapist can help you to use the strengths you already have and teach you new skills. A therapist will also listen to you without judgement or expectations.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be helpful to reduce symptoms. Therapy is designed to explore the root of the issues, change negative beliefs about yourself and teach tools that can help you feel more satisfaction in your life and accomplish your goals. The combination of medication and therapy is very effective for some people.
How long will it take?
Each client is an individual with unique needs and circumstances. The length of time therapy can take for you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire and commitment, and the reasons that influenced you to seek therapy in the first place.
What can I do to get the most out of therapy?
It’s important to make a commitment to therapy by attending scheduled sessions and practicing skills at home between sessions. I also encourage clients to give me honest feedback about what is helping or not so we can modify our work together to make it as effective as possible for you.
